Freemasons Lodge received its dispensation on April 29, 1992 from Benjamin F. Detroy, Worshipful Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Wisconsin. The charter was received on June 8, 1992 at the Grand Lodge Annual Communication in Green Bay.
The idea to establish a new lodge at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center to attract men who work or live in the downtown area of the city of Milwaukee was the brainchild of Carl J. Wussow, then Deputy Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Wisconsin and Robert B. Nienow, then Deputy for the State of Wisconsin - Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite.
The by-laws designated that the meetings would be held on the first Wednesday evening beginning at 5:00 p.m., followed by dinner in the tradition of old English lodges. After many suggestions, it was agreed by vote to name the lodge, Freemasons Lodge. The idea came from Freemasons Hall in London, England.
